About the event

This fun workshop features a Japanese lesson and origami or/ and calligraphy. Parents/children and adults are welcome. Harumi taught at leading schools and a university in Sydney. She is a former art and culture at a major newspaper in Tokyo.

2-hour workshop for parents/children for a group of more than 4 people.

3-hour workshop for adults for a group of more than 3 people.

The following is an outline for an adult class.

Japanese lesson: Japanese language is much easier to study than you think. It is a phonetic language. The words have no gender, there are no tones that change the meaning of words. A Japanese lesson covers:

1 Greetings

2 Self-introduction:

3 Counting numbers

4 Writing systems: Hiragana, kanji, katakana (your name)

Calligraphy for beginners: Calligraphy encourages mindful concentration and develops patience. The lesson covers

1. Basic brush techniques

2. Good posture

Arts and crafts: Card making and making some origami. Origami is a beautiful art, a craft, science and meditation all in once!  Origami promotes mindfulness.

The price changes according to the number of a group. It include materials and refreshment.

Adult workshop: Three people $150 each.  Six people: $95 per person

Parents/Children workshop: Four people $100 each.
